South Beach Beach Capital of Florida

South Beach the Coolest Neighborhood in Miami Beach

South Beach Beach Capital of Florida is the holder of this prestigious title since 1992. Gianni Versace bought a mansion in South Beach on Ocean Drive that year right across the street from the beach. What drew the famous designer born in Italy who could have lived in any beach town in the world, was many reasons.

South Beach is World Famous

Of course, the weather and the beach were major factors, but Gianni was quoted right after the purchase saying "He stopped off in South Beach for a couple of days in preparation for a Caribbean cruise from the Port of Miami. But after just 2 days, he canceled the cruise and started looking for a home." He found it on 11th Street and Ocean Drive and said he purchased the property on the spot after seeing many other properties.

South Beach Has it All

And once high-profile celebrity purchases a home, the press all over the world carried the news. Tourists started visiting the island in droves because if it's good enough for Gianni, it must be worth the trip. It was viewed as a great beach town that had everything you could want. For Gianni, it naturally was the weather, the beach, and the nightlife.

Enjoy a Margarita on South Beach

If you book a hotel with a Collins Avenue address, it most likely will have beach access. And with beach access, you can rent a chair and umbrella, order a Margarita, and watch the beautiful people parading along the beach. It's a stimulating and relaxing atmosphere you will remember for years to come. Many on South Beach find topless sunbathing a great way to get that all-around tan. It's legal to sunbathe topless and most people will pay you no mind because so many others are doing it too!

Come to South Beach for the Sun Stay for Sunset

After a tough day of Mojitos and suntanning, you're set for happy hour! 2 great places to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail or two, are Monte's Sunset and Moxy. Both bring good drinks together with sunset views. Monte's Sunset is located on Key Biscayne Bay, with a terrific view of the water and expensive yachts in the marina, but the sunsets are the main attraction and the house special called the Painkiller. Moxy is a modern cool hotel with a roof-top bar on the 9th floor with views of the ocean on one side, and Miami's skyline and sunset again is the main attraction with your favorite South Beach cocktail.

And before you go home make sure you visit the Miami Beach Welcome Sign, which is the photo in this blog post, for some great photos to remember your South Beach experience. It's located on 5th Street and Lenox Avenue.
